Well this is kind of a good news for the telecommunication industry. For those who are not aware, the logistics part of these companies is a very tiresome process.
These companies have to figure out which part of the country will be needing more sim cards and which will not and the demand forecasting has to be done. This is the reason why many times you don't find sim cards in many of the offices. I don't want to mention the names but this happens in India.
The companies can save millions of dollars on logistics of these sim cards. The initial cost of installing the new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system or a software system, will be a difficult and costly process but looking at the future savings that the companies will do on transportation, this cost is just a one time investment.
Well to Explain the software in more detail, there will be a no need of any extra hardware that has to be attached at the customer center of these companies, the data chords of the cell phones can be attached to the computers. When the customer comes for a new sim card, the necessary cord according to his phone will be attached and the information of the number will be updated in the customers phone. The IMEI number of the phone will be added to the database of the company. This will help them in following ways:
- In case of the customers phone being stolen, they can track the phone very easily. They can charge the customer for this service. The customers will be given a special code so when their phone is stolen, they can just sms that code and the tracking of the phone will start. The thief has to change the number and without any physical sim it will be difficult for him to sell them to the buyers.
- This can create a huge profit generating module for the telecommunication companies.
