3D Printers a Boon or a Curse for Designers?

3D - Printers have started attracting huge tech savvy crowd and people have actually started implementing in their organization to make small things. Is it a fad?

For those who don't know what 3D Printers are, below is a small clip of what they do:

3D Printer Woking

These 3D Printers have made the work of people simpler and most designers are loving them as it has reduced a lot of work, but what about the ability or the talent of an individual to touch and make a aesthetic model out of just stone. People will start forgetting the art and gift that we humans are graced with: To build or make with Hands.

These days people are finding more and more convenient ways to solve their problem but are forgetting the very basic thing of adding a human touch to it. The more we will be dependent on the technology the more it will be difficult for future generations to sustain. There are every year so many design students graduating from all around the globe. If this is what the invention has brought then there will be no need of all these million students suddenly. Where will you accommodate these students as the only love they have is to design thing with their hands.

I participated in an event of Industrial Design and there was this old man of around 85 years, he was an amazing designer and because of his amazing teaching skills i was able to learn a bit of designing in just 2-3 days. But in spite of being on the field for more than 40 years, people were excited to get their models printed from 3D Printers rather than the legend standing next to them. The future legends will be more tech savvy people as they will rule the digital world and if you are not a tech savvy, you will have to change with the changing world as there is decreasing demand of human touch and more demand of what the other person can give him in terms of services.

Well technology can neither be stopped nor be slowed down. We all need to grow up and find our ways in this continuous dynamic environment.
